Detecting Musical Influence

Seminar Abstract:

Music is a powerful force that can influence how we feel and create strong ties between people.  Musicians themselves are influenced by the music they hear, and those musical influences have the potential to manifest in the music they create.  Are we able to detect the influence of another artist in their music?  The data of music may be one strategy to detect this musical influence between musicians.  In this talk, we use self-reported data by musicians on their musical influences along with data of the elements of the music to explore the relationships between musicians and songs.
