Electrical & Computer Engineering Seminar
Catherine Sajna, Director of the Writing Center at Clarkson University
Will present a talk entitled:
Conference Presentation: “Do’s and Don’ts”
CAMP 176
Wednesday, November 1st, 2023
4pm-5pm
Abstract: Presentations are stressful, so speakers respond by narrowing their focus to getting the information right, rather than making the information interesting. During this seminar, we will go over basics, like not reading from slides, but we will push that into new territory, such as not reading your title or table of contents. We will discuss the pros and cons of text on slides especially when accents or technical terms are involved. We will discuss what ‘being enthusiastic’ means for your delivery. Since presentations require a lot of practice, her seminar will include information on how to make appointments at the Clarkson Writing Center for further support.
Bio: Catherine Sajna has been the Director of the Writing Center and of the ESL Program since 2019. She has been teaching writing and presentation skills since 1985 and understands that the skills are best learned by practice rather than rules and models.
