Native American Heritage Month

November 1 – 30
The act of recognizing a time each year for “Native Americans” date back to the efforts of Dr. Arthur C. Parker (Seneca) in the early 1900s, with numerous Presidents making a general announcement or proclamation.

In 1990, President George H. Bush officially had a joint resolution to proclaim November 1990 as “National American Indian Heritage Month,” with similar resolutions adding to “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.”

Clarkson University recognizes the month of November as Native American Heritage Month in honor of all the Indigenous People who help shape the university into the community we all know. We specifically recognize the contributions of the Akwesasne Mohawk, Mohican, Haudenosaunee, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening our campuses in particular.
