As we head into the final days of the Fall 2023 semester, consider attending the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley annual Teaching Effectiveness Conference on Saturday, December 2! During this one-day experience, you’ll engage with members of the Associated Colleges, who will provide fresh perspectives and solutions for many faculty members laboring to adapt to the dynamics of the post-pandemic student experience. Please consider offering a few hours of your weekend for this informative time together with colleagues who–like you–greatly care about teaching and the student experience on our campuses.
Dr. Jennifer Ball, Clarkson’s Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access and Professor in the Humanities and Social Science Department, will deliver the keynote, “Understanding and Engaging the Post-Pandemic College Student” As many long-time faculty have observed, students and the classroom dynamic have been impacted by COVID. She will address the ‘tip of the iceberg’ in understanding the new classroom experience as a part of the post-pandemic student experience, and discuss ways to engage in the holistic experience of college students to improve student mental health and success in the classroom, including accessing campus support systems more successfully.
Leaders on the frontline from each of our four campuses’ counseling centers will also engage attendees in a Mental Health panel to share their observations of how our student bodies are handling academic and social pressure differently in the post-pandemic world, and ways to identify and then connect students who would benefit from campus support systems.
Finally, a panel of faculty will discuss using digital tools in the classroom to create new learning opportunities as well as the challenges that come with trying new ways of learning and doing. And all attendees will have the opportunity to dive into in-depth conversations with their peers on the topics discussed throughout the conference. These dialogues will help us generate insights on critical issues that impact a student’s learning experience and faculty’s teaching practices and identify strategies to best support students.
Lunch will be provided!
