Matthias Schmidt, a dedicated undergraduate chemistry major, has recently been awarded a grant of $10,121 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). This grant supports Matthias in his endeavors within Assistant Professor Ka Ho Leung’s research laboratory in the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science at Clarkson University.
The funding is designated for Schmidt’s active participation in Prof. Leung’s NIH-funded project, focusing on the development of sub-cellular quantitative imaging reporters. These reporters are intended for application in patient skin fibroblasts, with a primary focus on diagnostic purposes.
Schmidt expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I initiated my undergraduate research journey during my freshman year at Clarkson University, where numerous research opportunities abound. I gained valuable experience and acquired training that goes beyond the regular course curriculum. This embodies one of the distinctive strengths in STEM at Clarkson University.”
