Martin Luther King Day Keynote Speaker – Bakari Smith ’17 

Join us as we celebrate Martin Luther King Day and learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his legacy! We are honored to host Bakari Smith, Class of 2017 alum, as we celebrate the spirit and legacy of a more just world and being of service to each other. In the great words of Dr. King “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”

Biography: Bakari Smith is a native of Rochester, NY. In 2013, Bakari graduated from Irondequoit High School and continued his studies at Clarkson University. At Clarkson, he majored in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Power Engineering. He became involved with the CU collegiate chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), led the Clarkson University Jazz Ensemble, and was Captain of the Men’s Swimming Team. After graduating from Clarkson in 2017, Bakari began working at Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E: An Avangrid Company). He is presently a Senior Protection & Control Engineer. Outside of work, Bakari currently leads the Smooth Jazz/R&B band “As One”. In addition to music, Bakari serves as Secretary of the Rochester NSBE Professionals. In his spare time, Bakari enjoys cooking as well as traveling with his wife and fellow Clarkson Alumni.
