Distinction in Faculty Mentoring for Research and Scholarship nominations due Feb. 5, 2024

The Distinction in Faculty Mentoring for Research and Scholarship recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to faculty mentoring in research and scholarship by actively assisting pre-tenure and mid-career faculty in developing their career(s). Exceptional mentoring can include offering advice, feedback and guidance on research activities, coaching on work-life balance issues, providing professional research opportunities for mentees, and/or assisting in development of research related skills such as grant writing, networking, processing, accessing, etc. This awardee will receive this honor during the forthcoming faculty research event in April.

Eligibility:

  • Tenured faculty member at Clarkson University
  • Served as a faculty research mentor, in a formal or informal capacity, to more than one junior and/or mid-career faculty over a continuous period at Clarkson
  • Scholar with demonstrated success in the areas they mentor
  • Academic Affairs Administrators are not eligible

Evaluation Criteria:

A demonstrated commitment to fostering the intellectual, creative, scholarly, and professional growth of mentees so that they may function effectively and with measurable research and scholarly success at Clarkson and at the national/international level

Evidence of sustained commitment to a professional mentoring relationship that results in career growth or personal development of mentees

Nominations:

A faculty research mentor may be nominated by faculty colleagues and/or Academic Affairs Administrators by submitting a letter of nomination, documented evidence of criteria as described above, and the CV of the nominee. Please submit materials to ldillon@clarkson.edu  by Monday, February 5, 2024 for full consideration.

Selection:

Subsequent to receiving nominations, a committee composed of members from the Academic Dean’s Council will meet to facilitate the selecting of the individual most deserving of this recognition embodied in the award. Please note that all nominations will be considered good for two years however an updated CV is required.
