St. Lawrence County Public Transit has important safety reminders for students who are utilizing their student benefit of using their student ID card to ride any shuttle bus in St. Lawrence County for free, including our campus shuttle route #68.

Before the Bus Arrives

  • Plan your trip by keeping a copy of the current schedule with you for reference. You can also download a copy of the route map to give you a better idea of where the set stops are located.
  • You should arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus arrives.
  • You should wait for the bus, at least ten feet — five giant steps — away from the curb.

Getting On and Off Safely

  • Only attempt to get on the bus at designated bus stop areas.
  • When the bus arrives, you should wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, the door opens, and the driver says it’s okay to get on or off.

Always Use Caution Around the Bus

  • You should never walk or run behind a bus.
  • If you must cross the street in front of the bus, walk on a sidewalk or along the side of the street to a place at least ten feet — five giant steps — in front of the bus before crossing.
  • Look carefully to the left, right, and left again if you have to cross the street.
  • You should also make eye contact with the driver before crossing to make sure the driver can see that you’re crossing to avoid the danger zone.
