Seeking Paid Participants for a Study of Brain Responses to Speech Sounds

Clarkson’s Hearing and Attention Lab (HAL) seeks participants for an EEG study examining brain responses to speech sounds. This project is part of a larger initiative based out of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, aiming to identify neural markers of abnormal language development in preterm infants. Data collection at Clarkson will characterize the mature adult response to these sounds for comparison to the pediatric dataset.

Interested participants who speak English as their first language, are between the ages of 18 and 30, and have no hearing or attention deficits should complete the qualifying survey linked below, which takes about 15 minutes. Individuals who are selected for EEG participation will visit the Hearing and Attention Lab for one 2.5 hour session in which their EEG will be measured while they hear simple speech sounds and complete computerized tasks. Those who participate in that session will receive $40 for their time.
