Entrepreneurship class: From Palo Alto, California to Potsdam NY

The ‘premier’ documentary about Palo Alto Entrepreneur Lee Felsenstein was shown at Clarkson University entrepreneurship class: “Designing and Leading New Ventures” led by Professor Christian Felzensztein who holds the Reh Family Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Students got the opportunity to interact with social media and technology entreprepreneurs about the implications of AI and technology for new ventures, they also received ‘hands-on live’ feedback on their tech startups projects.

“The main intention behind creating this documentary was to portray Lee Felsenstein and document his unique persona on camera to introduce him to others, especially younger generations born in the ‘80s and ‘90s who do not know much about previous generations entrepreneurial ventures” said Reza Khosravi Co-founder at Galliot in California and producer of this documentary.

The Legacy Technologies is now available on Youtube and features Lee Felsenstein, an innovator who developed the VDM-1, the precursor to modern graphics cards. Lee’s background is fascinating, states the producer: he was raised in a family deeply involved in political activism, with a grandfather who was a Jewish immigrant to the U.S. facing numerous challenges. Lee himself was arrested during the Free Speech Movement in Berkeley back in 60’s, reflecting his active engagement in advocating for civil liberties and counter-culture. He viewed computers as a tool to advance freedoms and social liberties. Media frequently labeled him a “Radical Leftist” or “Populist Engineer”—titles that came with a high personal cost, yet never swayed his dedication to his principles till today.

Lee lives quietly in Redwood City, CA continuing to work on projects that align with his vision of using technology to enhance community interaction, including his concept of “social media and technology free for all”. This episode is a tribute to a man who was once mentioned alongside names like Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, and Steve Jobs but now focuses on his social projects away from the limelight.
