Members of the Biochemistry and Proteomics Laboratories, led by Clarkson University Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Costel C. Darie, attended the Eastern Analytical Symposium, held at the Princeton Crowne Plaza from November 17 to 20 in Plainsboro, NJ. The Eastern Analytical Symposium is one of the largest conferences from the East Coast that covers the field of chemistry.
“We had the largest crowd ever! Our lab members are well represented”, said Darie. “We have four graduate students (Taniya Jayaweera, Aneeta Arshad, Pathea Bruno, and Victor Njoku), seven undergraduate students (Logan Seymour, Krish Weraduwage, Niyogushima Nuru, Peter Biggers, Nick Versaci, Kaya Johnson, and Lilian Corrice), one Clarkson School Student (Alivia Sochia), and two high school students (Nina Hukovic and Celeste A. Darie) that attended the meeting.”
Jayaweera, Arshad, Bruno, Njoku, Seymour, Johnson, and Weraduwage delivered a total of seven oral presentations, and eight poster presentations were given by Hukovic, Darie, Sochia, Corrice, Biggers, Versaci, Weraduwage and Jayaweera. This was the first trip to the Eastern Analytical Symposium for most of the students, and several were attending a conference for the first time.
“I am amazed about what it means to attend a national conference! I am excited to be here, on my first conference as an undergraduate student”, said Johnson, an undergraduate student from Darie Labs. “I delivered my very first oral presentation at a national conference! I was terrified of the idea of delivering an oral presentation, but now I am proud that I was able to do it”, ended Johnson.
In addition to the members of the Darie Labs that attended the conference, two graduate students from Andreescu Laboratories, led by Clarkson University Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Silvana Andreescu, alsoattended the conference: Gloria Ajetomiwa Popoola and Ulfet Erdogan.
