Community Compost Outreach Liaison (Potsdam, NY)

Position Summary Three “Community Compost Liaisons” will be hired to conduct community education campaigns, one community each (Potsdam (+surrounding area); Akwesasne; Lake Placid/Tupper Lake; or Plattsburgh). This work is aligned with a USDA grant to support rural businesses who generate and recycle food scraps.

Campaigns may include workshops and presentations, distribution of flyers, engaging with community members and business owners, and responding to general inquiries about food scrap reduction and recycling strategies. Each liaison will additionally be responsible to coordinate and work with student interns to complete 5 food waste audits for food waste generators. Liaisons will attend a full day training (10 hours) at Clarkson University on the basics of food waste, composting, effective community education/outreach, and project orientation. Liaisons will work with Clarkson and Compost for Good to develop an outreach schedule targeting key community groups and businesses based on feedback from regional compost site operators and planning team members. Campaigns will be conducted during a ~3 month window within the timeframe of March – August, 2024 (Approximately 50 hours/month). Clarkson and Compost for Good will provide guidelines for the education campaigns, with input with approval from the planning team.

Minimum qualifications  Work Experience: Proven track record of completing tasks; demonstrated community relationships/partnerships; experience presenting in a variety of interactive settings and communication platforms. Logistical requirements: Reliable transportation; live or work in or near the target community; access to google compatible formats.

Preferred: Familiarity with food scraps generation and compost systems; outreach education development experience; familiarity with a variety of social media and other community outreach formats.

Range: $18.00- $20.00 (per diem) salary based on experience

Custodial Supervisor (Potsdam, NY)

Position Summary: Assist in the supervision and coordination of custodial activities. Monitor, and approve time cards for employees under the Custodial Manager’s direction. Conduct inspections and monitor work performance of employees in designated areas to ensure completion of work assignments. Coordinate, approve, and ensure coverage of all vacation requests and other absences. Recommend and participate in disciplinary action under the Custodial manager’s supervision. Perform yearly employee performance evaluations. This is a highly customer service oriented position in which employees should strive to exceed customer expectations. This posting is for Second Shift.

Minimum qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Four (4) years of supervisory experience.

Range: $18.00- $19.23 based on experience

Minimum qualifications  Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited program.

Range: $75,00- $85,000 based on experience
