NEW! the ADK Experience kicks off this semester with a 1 credit eDNA in the ADKs class

The Institute for a Sustainable Environment is excited to announce our new ADK Experience Series.  The first of a series of 1-credit field experiences is offered this semester by Dr. Katie Benson, Dept. Biology. With her expertise in eDNA, students will use eDNA metabarcoding to characterize winter use of waterfalls and dams by fish species. Skills and techniques involved in this project include experimental design, eDNA sample collection, DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis.

The 1- credit course is available for undergraduate and graduate students (EV411/511). The course will consist of three meetings, a 3-hour kick-off meeting, one full Saturday in early March, and a 3-hour wrap-up meeting. Dates and times are TBD and will be decided based on group availability.
