Summer Research Experience on Resilient Carbon-Free U.S. Electric Power Systems
o 3-Year award from NSF to establish the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site (2022-2025);
o 10-week summer research program at Clarkson;
o Develop highly skilled workforce for a resilient and decarbonized electricity system

Eligibility:
• U.S. citizens or permanent residents;
• GPA above 3.0;
• Interest and background in areas suitable for one or more research projects related to decarbonization and resiliency of electricity infrastructure including EE, ME, Econ, Math, CS, Env Eng., Physics, etc.;

Activities:
• Research experience with all aspects of developing carbon-free power systems
• Interact with technical experts from NYISO, NYPA and NYSEG/AvanGrid;
• Field trips of National Grid’s substations, New York Power Authority’s Hydropower, and NREL’s facilities;
• Professional development (Ph.D. pathways, public speaking, poster development, invited seminars, etc.);
• Team building (hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities).

Financial Benefits:
• $600/week Research Stipend for 10 weeks;
• $120/week food stipend for 10 weeks;
• Round-trip travel to and from Clarkson (up to $600 reimbursement);
• Free on-campus housing.

Important Dates:
• May 26-August 1, 2025 for REU Program;
• Rolling admissions: full consideration for applications before Feb 15, 2025 and will continue to review afterwards until positions are filled (check the website for updates).
