Due Windows 11: Schedule today.

All faculty and staff are asked to schedule your Windows 10 device for an update to Windows 11 with the Appointment Calendar here. Choose from one of the available options or specify a date by choosing Other. More about preparing for the update experience below. You will receive confirmation of your scheduled date.

Thank you to those who have already scheduled and completed this important update!

Windows 11 is here

As Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 in October 2025, Clarkson University is migrating all compatible devices to Windows 11. To meet the deadline, it is very important that faculty and staff members still running Windows 10 schedule their device for an update today.

Devices that are not compatible with Windows 11 must be permanently replaced no later than October 2027. Refer to the University Computer Purchase Program for more information on replacement options.

If you are not sure about the status of your device compatibility, please follow steps to schedule for an update. Technicians will determine compatibility and guide you towards next steps.

Plan for the Experience

Prior to Update:

Please remove unneeded files, back up any data you wish to keep safe, and create a list of software applications you wish to have re-installed.

Update Steps:

  • The Windows 11 update requires the device to be re-imaged by OIT staff in satellite offices located in Snell or CAMP.  All prior data and software is permanently deleted from the device as part of the Windows 11 installation. An OIT technician will arrange for pickup/drop off of your device.
  • Prior to performing the update, files in the following folders will be set up with Folder Redirection: Desktop, Documents, Favorites, Music, Pictures, Videos. Read more about Folder Redirection here. Once folder redirection is successfully confirmed, the update will take 1-2 days to complete.
  • Anticipate your device to be unavailable for up to 2 business days while we perform the update. A laptop loan is available by request. Custom arrangements will be made for those working remotely. Your OIT technician will work with you to make needed arrangements.

If your device has been recently replaced or updated to Windows 11, there is no action at this time. Thank you to everyone who has already acted.
