Clarkson University Science Cafés Continue on April 9 with “SHARPer: Large Eddy Simulations of Clarkson Ducted Wind Turbines and Diffuser Optimization”

Headshot, Chunlei Liang

Chunlei Liang, Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Clarkson University, will discuss some development of numerical methods and software engineering at Clarkson University for a massively parallel code, SHARPer during his talk titled “SHARPer: Large Eddy Simulations of Clarkson Ducted Wind Turbines and Diffuser Optimization” on April 9 at 7:15 p.m.

SHARPer was used to conduct the first high-order Large Eddy Simulation of a marine propeller and the first high-order large eddy simulation of a ducted wind turbine. Liang and his graduate student, Seyi Oluwadare, also designed the Seyi-Chunlei Ducted Turbine in 2025. The Seyi-Chunlei Ducted Turbine consistently offers 7 percent more power output than the Clarkson Ducted Wind Turbine.

Science Cafés are held in Potsdam in the Potsdam Civic Center Community Room at 2 Park Street at 7:15 p.m.
