Supporting students has always been a critical role for all of us working in higher education. Student stress, and distress, is a common issue that faculty and staff have to address. The current political environment has only increased sources of stress for many of our students. The following one hour, on-line, workshop is designed to offer you ways to build on your skills as you support students you interact with in your role.
Cultivating a Culture of Care: Motivational Interviewing Skills to Support Students
Wednesday, June 4, 12pm – 1pm
Faculty and staff are likely having many conversations with students who are struggling. It can feel challenging to know how to respond and not fall into the role of a counselor or mental health professional. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based interpersonal style that can help improve interactions that faculty and staff are already having with students. In this webinar, participants will be introduced to the core skills of motivational interviewing that increase the chances of students feeling supported and taking needed action steps like accessing mental health resources.
