The members of the Biochemistry and Proteomics Laboratories, led by Professor of Chemistry & Biomolecular Science Costel C. Darie, are attending the international American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) conference that is at the Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore, MD, during June 1-5, 2025. The international American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) conference is one of the largest conferences that covers the field of mass spectrometry, with about 8,000 scientists that attend it, from all over the world.

“Our lab is well represented, as it always was”, said Darie. We have four graduate students (Taniya Jayaweera, Aneeta Arshad, Victor Njoku, and Pathea Bruno), three undergraduate students (Niyogushima Nuru, Hailey Morrissiey, and Krish Weraduwage) and one high school student (Angiolina Hukovic) that attend the meeting.
The students will deliver 12 poster presentations; the undergraduate and high school students also attended the undergraduate competition, and four out of 32 students were Clarkson students. Some of our students never attended this conference.
“I am excited to be here, on this conference as an undergraduate student”, said Nuru, an undergraduate student in Darie Labs. “I attended ASMS last year in Anaheim, CA and I waited for the momemt to attend again. I believe that it is a very good practice to be exposed to other peers, and I am thankful to CUPO/McNair office for supporting my travel”, ended Nuru.

While most of the funds for this conference came from the Darie Labs, travel of the lab members was also supported in part by the Donald C. Clark Travel Grant to Dr. Darie, by support from CUPO/McNair office to Niyogushima Nuru and by the Joseph A. Loo Travel Award to Hailey Morrissiey. Worth noting that Dr. Joseph A. Loo, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles is the president of the ASMS and a Clarkson Chemistry alumnus (class of ’82).
“I am honored to be the Joseph A. Loo Travel Award recipient for this year, said Morrissiey. I still can’t believe that I am so lucky to meet with the president of the ASMS and take a picture with him” ended Morrissiey.
