Title – Graduate Students Participate in Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics(SIAM) Sponsored Mathematical Modeling Workshops

Clarkson mathematics PhD candidates, Sucharitha Dodamgodage (supervised by Dr. Sumona
Mondal and Dr. Shanatanu Sur) and Nipuni De Silva (supervised by Dr. James Greene),
recently participated in the 2025 Graduate Student Mathematical Modeling Camp (GSMMC)
and the Mathematical Problems in Industry (MPI) Workshop organized by the Society for
Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
The GSMMC was held from June 4 to 7, 2025, at Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona, California,
followed by the MPI Workshop from June 9 to 13, 2025, at Claremont Graduate University.
These highly regarded national events brought together selected graduate students from across
the world to collaboratively solve complex, real-world problems posed by industry partners.
During the workshops, participants worked in interdisciplinary teams to apply advanced
mathematical modeling techniques to real industrial challenges. This experience provided
invaluable opportunities for professional development, networking, and exposure to applied
research beyond the academic setting.
