Graduate Writing Center (GWC) Continues this Spring

To make an appointment or find out what the GWC can do, please email the director, Catherine Sajna at csajna@clarkson.edu
Reasons to explore the GWC

  • A better draft can save supervising faculty lots of editing time.
  • Graduate students are developing as professional writers and benefit from the support.

Document ReviewGraduate students often write longer articles, comps and dissertations.  With the advising faculty member’s permission, the Graduate Writing Center can handle longer documents by reviewing the document offline and then meeting with the student to discuss the review.

  • We can help writers provide more context especially in Background and Literature Reviews.
  • We can develop idea flow and sentence clarity.
  • We can correct non-English grammar.

Writing Support and InstructionStudents who feel that their writing is not strong can ask for review.  Looking at writing for a low-stakes assignment can be a great way to improve writing in general.
Writing RetreatsIn December, we offered the first ever graduate student writing retreat.  Retreats are a great time to be motivated and held accountable to sit in your seat and get writing done.  We use the Pomodoro method.  If you’re interested in participating during the next retreat, contact the director.
The Graduate Writing Center is available by appointment M-F at a mutually agreeable time.  Contact the director, Catherine Sajna at csajna@clarkson.edu to set up a review or discuss how the GWC might help in your department or with the CUGSA.
