Love for Specialized Coffee Leads Clarkson Grad to New Business Venture with Help from The Shipley Center

A lifelong love for all things coffee inspired Clarkson alumna Charlotte Hayden ’16, to start The Better Brew Company. Better Brew specializes in craft coffee flavors “designed to make your morning cup of coffee taste like its straight out of your favorite café.” Hayden, who majored in Innovation in Entrepreneurship at Clarkson, decided to start the company when she realized the only place she wasn’t getting a good cup of coffee was in her own home.

“After scouring the shelves of my grocery store and coming up short, I came up with the idea for the Better Brew Company. A way to flavor my coffee at home,” Hayden said.

Armed with an idea, Hayden sought out the Shipley Center for Innovation for more guidance. “The Shipley Center has been pivotal in working out the fine details of my business,” Hayden said. “From making sure it’s set up correctly to helping me understand the market, they have made sure that all of my T’s are crossed and my I’s are dotted.” Hayden says the experiences she had while she was a student at Clarkson are unmatched. “Clarkson has given me the most valuable connections, including VPs and CEOs at companies both large and small.”

Better Brew is only the beginning for Hayden. “I hope to be the CEO of my own company, and give back to Clarkson by becoming a mentor to students, just like people have done for me,” she said.
