This spring, after donning white coats, sitting for certification exams or finishing clinicals, the Lewis School’s Class of 2021 embarked on a journey as newly minted healthcare professionals. Now more than ever, the world needs committed, compassionate and innovative healthcare workers. I am deeply impressed by all our students’ bravery and determination as they persevered through a tumultuous academic year. Biotech Hub
In addition to its reputation as a classic college town and a draw for winter sports enthusiasts, Potsdam will soon be known as the home of a biotechnology cluster in the North Country. Ichor Therapeutics Inc. is moving to Clarkson’s North Country Incubator, where it will pursue structure-based drug discovery and translational medicine. READ MORE
Welcome, Bioethics
Clarkson’s bioethics program has a new home in the Lewis School of Health Sciences, just in time to celebrate its 20-year anniversary of offering online graduate programs. The move will help aspiring bioethicists focus on ethical issues that might arise in a healthcare setting and will enable collaboration with our other graduate healthcare programs. READ MORE
Lending a Hand
A group of pre-health students recently got a week of real-world experience. Instead of venturing abroad, Clarkson’s Doctors Without Borders club stuck closer to home and traveled to Denver, where students put their burgeoning healthcare skills to the test at a homeless shelter, among other places. On the Front Lines
When we send Golden Knights out into the world, we know they are going to do great things. Miranda Collins ’20 did not disappoint. Despite being confronted by an economy gripped by the pandemic, Collins rolled up her sleeves and found a way to help on the COVID-19 front lines, assisting at Saratoga Hospital as a laboratory technical associate.
