ACS Northern NY-Young Chemists Committee

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Northern New York Local Section and the ACS Northern New York Younger Chemists Committee have been nominated for multiple ChemLuminary Awards. Award recipients will be announced on October 21 during National Chemistry Week.
The Local Section has been selected as a finalist for the following ChemLuminary Award(s):

Outstanding Local Section Career Program Award
Outstanding New Local Section Younger Chemists Committee
Outstanding Local Section Younger Chemists Committee

The ACS will hold the 23rd Annual ChemLuminary Awards ceremony virtually during National Chemistry Week (October 17–23, 2021) on Thursday, October 21 at 4 pm ET. The ceremony will include a keynote address by Mary K. Engelman, Eastman Chemical (retired), recipient of the 2021 Award for Volunteer Service to the American Chemical Society, and the presentations of awards given by 18 committees of the Society will follow. This year’s theme is “ACS Volunteers Catalyze Change,” which honors the work of our volunteers to continue to improve people’s lives. Registration is complimentary. Attendees will receive an access code to enter the event. Please feel free to share the registration link and ad with members of your section.

Clarkson Chemistry PhD graduate Fatima Mustafa ’21 and Clarkson Biosciences & Biotechnology PhD Candidate, Lara Varden volunteered many hours in 2020 to establish the local YCC section and sponsor numerous virtual events focused on professional development, idea exchange and mutual support.
