TURN ON New Ducted Wind Turbine at SUNY Potsdam at 11am on Wed 10/27

Please join us on Wednesday, October 27th at 11AM EDT as we “TURN ON” a new, locally designed and manufactured ducted wind turbine just installed at SUNY Potsdam!  SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University will be hosting a press event on the SUNY Potsdam campus (use GPS 190 Outer Main Street, Potsdam, NY 13676) with the Ducted Wind Turbine (DWT) design and management team.  Please forward this as you see appropriate.

This event is currently planned fully outdoors with a tent near the turbine.  In the event of strong rain, we will postpone.   Please RSVP to community@clarkson.edu and look for updates in the digest of campus announcements.

October 27 is National Sustainability Day and this is a great way to celebrate local solutions to global problems.  DWT is a wind turbine company, located in Potsdam, NY, that focuses on providing the lowest cost per kilowatt-hour in the small turbine market in an effort to improve the quality of life on our planet. DWT’s design can produce up two times the energy of a conventional open bladed wind turbine of the same rotor diameter.  The design for the original turbine came out of Clarkson University Associate Professor of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Ken Visser’s research and led to the incorporation of DWT through Clarkson’s Shipley Center for Innovation.

The company has six full time employees, hired four Clarkson interns this past summer and continues to innovate and refine the ducted wind turbine design.  In 2020, the company secured a building in Potsdam to do their commercial turbine construction and is continuing to working with the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab on commercialization opportunities. The turbine at SUNY Potsdam is another example of demonstration projects that the community can visit to see sustainability projects in action. We look forward to seeing you.
