Helping students to succeed is our top priority

Dear faculty and staff,

As we head into the last stretch of the Fall semester, I want to reiterate what we all know to be true – the success of our students is our top priority at Clarkson University.  Students come to Clarkson with a view for a future rich with opportunity and we meet them where they are and support their journey with our passion, intellect, and the resources needed to succeed at Clarkson and beyond.  You are all playing a critical role and today it is truer than ever – everyone is an educator.

This Fall we’ve seen the impacts of the past 18 months revealed through our student experience.  More students are seeking wellness and mental health support, more are demanding the personalized educational experience Clarkson promises, and more are sharing their stories of challenges and successes in and out of the classroom.

Clarkson has an abundance of student support services across all of our divisions, each dedicated to helping students thrive academically, socially, and personally.  Unfortunately, students are not always aware of what we have to offer. We also have numerous support services for faculty and staff to better facilitate the success of our students.

We need you to help them connect to the services and supports they need.  Whether it is adding recorded lectures to your Moodle site and working with the Teaching and Learning Corner, The Institute for STEM Education, and University Libraries to integrate new learning tools into your class or connecting students to resources ranging from tutoring services to advising, to counseling, we all need to be prepared to guide our students.

As we work to build out the Office of Student Achievement website linked here https://sites.clarkson.edu/academic-affairs/office-of-student-achievement/clarkson.edu/, we wanted to share with you the key academic and non-academic offices and locations for services and support for students (undergraduate and graduate) and educators.

Over the Spring 2022 semester and into the summer we will be moving some of our student services to co-locate our advising, tutoring, writing center, and student achievement services operations to provide a one-stop-shop to better support our students.

I believe the Office of Student Achievement will be a driving force in helping students get the services they need to be academically successful. We can’t wait to see it finished and fully serving students to help them achieve their personal and professional goals through graduation and beyond.

Every faculty and staff member on this campus – regardless of your individual job description – makes a difference in a student’s life, and we hope you feel as privileged to have that opportunity as we do. If you or your students are ever struggling to find the appropriate support services, we have knowledgeable staff members who can triage questions to answer via email at sas@clarkson.edu
