St Lawrence County is looking for assistance for the victims of the fire at the Ogdensburg Riverview Towers this past week, including furniture that could be on loan for three to six months or permanently for the many local individuals who are displaced from this high rise for the elderly. Apartments have been located for many of the individuals, however they are unfurnished and the residents are unable to remove their furniture from their current locations. Individuals who are looking to volunteer can contact the County EOC (Emergency Operations Center) at 315-229-3611.
If people want to make financial contributions, we are encouraging gift cards for local pharmacies, Walmart, grocery stores, gas cards, Visa gift card and other similar items. These items will be needed to help the residents in the weeks to come. The Office for the Aging can also accept check donations or cash donations. They can be mailed or dropped off to: Office for the Aging, 80 State Highway 310, Suite 7, Canton, NY 13617. We are asking for checks to be made payable to: Office for the Aging and include a note indicating the money is for the residents of Riverview towers.
They are still looking for a few other medical items like shower seats for residents. Furniture won’t be picked up until the resident moves to a more permanent location. If you can help with any of these supplies, please contact the EOC or Lindsay Best, Community Services Department. She can be reached at the EOC number above or via email at lbest@stlawco.org.
