Judges Requested: Ignite- Summer of Innovation Challenge

In an effort to get students excited before their arrival on campus, and to reduce summer melt, Ignite has created the Summer of Innovation Challenge. Over the course of 5 weeks, students will be challenged to collaborate with friends and family to be creative, have some fun, and give them a chance to win exciting prizes – we need some help judging!

We are posing daily challenges such as making a mini golf hole (with someone older than 40), making music with sounds you hear every day (with a peer), or showing us how they will survive winter in the North Country (with someone less than 16)… but please don’t share these challenges with students, as these will come up throughout the challenge. These challenges must be completed with items found around the home and the students are being instructed that they should not be going out to buy things to complete them. The students (and their collaborator of choice) will be given the challenges each Monday morning and must submit them by Friday at noon.

This is where you come in! We are looking for judges to help us choose the winners each week! Participating students will submit Flipgrid videos of 30 seconds or less by noon on Friday and we ask that judges choose their favorite by Tuesday of the following week at 4 pm, as the announcement of winners will go out on Wednesdays.

If you were here in Spring 2021 when our students went into the mandatory 10-day lockdown, the premise of this challenge should sound very familiar to you. We believe that getting students to think creatively, start tinkering, and become a maker before they arrive on campus, all while collaborating with others, will be to Clarkson’s benefit.

We hope that you’ll find this to be a fun way to connect with the incoming students! Please fill out this form to let us know if you can help and when you are available: Judge Sign-up Form. If you sign up, further instructions will be provided.

Best,

Clarkson Ignite
