Message From the Chair

Throughout all phases of their careers, electrical and computer engineering faculty and students work toward a higher purpose. Here you will read about an undergraduate student who already plans to serve in the Department of Defense; two of our professors who are performing valuable research that will advance the welfare of humanity through medical and space applications; and one of our newest professors emeriti, who dedicated his career to aiding those with neurological diseases and trauma. Their achievements are inspiring.

Helping NASA

David Crouse is keeping busy. He’s a professor of electrical and computer engineering, and he’s also the president of Phoebus Optoelectronics, which he founded to commercialize his research. Now, he and his team are developing metamaterials for NASA that will be used in the hyperspectral imaging systems in satellites. READ MORE

Job on the Horizon

Software engineering student George “Duff” Crochiere ’25 may only be a sophomore, but he already has a full-time job waiting for him after graduation — with the Department of Defense, no less. It’s all part of the SMART (Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation) Scholarship that Crochiere received. READ MORE

Exemplary Service

After 17 years, Professor Charles Robinson is hanging up his hat. A distinguished biomedical engineering generalist, rehab engineering specialist, neuroscientist and teacher, Robinson directed CREST, Clarkson’s Center for Rehabilitation Engineering, Science & Technology. We are exceedingly grateful for his exemplary service to the University. READ MORE

Spotlight on Biofilms

Most of us don’t think about biofilms, the thin layers of microorganisms that form on surfaces all around us and can cause serious diseases and infections. Professor Dana Barry, however, has made biofilms the topic of articles and several books. Her most recent article about biofilms on metallic materials was published in International Materials Reviews. READ MORE
