The Healthcare MBA Capstone class welcomed Jason Helgerson as the distinguished lecturer for the weekend intensive course. Mr. Helgerson has previously served as the Medicaid Director for Wisconsin and advised the Obama administration on developing and implementing the Affordable Care Act. More recently, he was New York State’s Medicaid Director, where he championed the Delivery System Redesign Incentive Payment (DSRIP) Program. He shared his experience guiding the Medicaid program through the transformative experience and how that led him to found his current organization Helgerson Solutions Group (HSG), where he consults globally on value-based payment strategies.
This year’s Healthcare MBA Capstone consisted of eight student consulting teams, four students per team, who were partnered with regional healthcare clients including Ellis Medicine, Home Care Association of NY, Hometown Health, Idion Healthcare, MVP Healthcare, Saratoga Senior Center, and Whitney Young Health. The consulting engagements included real-time projects that ranged from insurance assessments, service line and program analyses, sepsis screening tool evaluation, new product marketing plans, and patient portal quality improvement.
