Dr. Lara Varden, PhD’22, will talk about her “Amazing Transformation: My journey from chronic pain and disability to a PhD and entrepreneurship.” She will be speaking about how she went from being a professional figure skater and teacher to becoming totally disabled in a car accident and her journey from multiple surgeries and chronic back pain to health, healing, and eventual thriving. She will discuss the path that led her to get her BS in Biochemistry from SUNY Potsdam and the professors and research that guided her to obtain her PhD in Interdisciplinary Biosciences & Biotechnology at Clarkson University. Her undergraduate and graduate research, although seemingly unrelated, will be revealed to be very much connected in the career path she serendipitously traveled down. She will touch upon various career options new graduates can take including entrepreneurship and the importance of following your passion and being open to opportunities.
