Clarkson University’s Sumona Mondal Receives CUSA Outstanding Teaching Award for the Second Time

Clarkson University Associate Professor of Mathematics has received the Clarkson University Student Association (CUSA) Outstanding Teaching Award for 2023. Mondal, who previously received the award in 2019, was chosen for this honor by students.

The CUSA Outstanding Teaching Award was established in 1991 by the Student Association to recognize outstanding teaching and contributions to education at Clarkson University.

Mondal teaches courses in the areas of Statistical Inference, Applied Statistics, and Data Mining. Mondal’s teaching focuses on the most effective ways to integrate problem-based learning and inquiry methodologies into a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses at Clarkson. She has received various honors from Clarkson University, including the Phalanx Commendable Leadership Award in 2023, Diversity and Inclusion Award in 2022, and CUSA Outstanding Teaching Award in 2019, among others.

“Being chosen for the CUSA outstanding teaching award is a great honor, especially since students select the winners.  My main motivation for selecting an academic career is the opportunity that it gives me to mentor and teach students. I think that teaching at all levels—from introductory undergraduate to graduate courses—is a way to interact with students who have different interests, aspirations, and skill sets,” Mondal said.
