INVITING INDIVIDUALS FROM AGES 18 TO 80 YEARS OLD TO PARTICIPATE IN A STUDY OF Gmail BEHAVIOR

Dr. Daqing Hou performs research in behavioral user authentication and is looking for subjects willing to participate in his research efforts. You must be >=18 years of age to participate. The project involves studying continuous human computing activity, specifically mouse and keyboard behaviors, to determine their effectiveness (either alone or in conjunction with traditional methods) as a means of human verification.

We are in CAMP111. If you choose to participate, we will share instructions and assist you with beginning the data collection process. Special preparations for data collection include downloading and running the data logger in the Firefox browser. Mouse and keystroke data will be collected using your computer whenever you’d like; data will be securely maintained on a server hosted by Clarkson University. Additionally, you will be given typing and navigation tasks through emails. These tasks involve composing emails, searching for existing emails, reading emails, etc., all within a fake Gmail account provided by us. Finally, the downloaded software program will record your mouse movements on the screen, keystrokes, and their timestamps, storing them on the secured server.

If you choose to participate, your involvement will include four or more data collection sessions; your mouse and keystroke data will be collected using the logger software. The 1st session will take approximately 5-10 minutes. Subsequently, we will contact you to update you on the success of your session and request you start a new session with provided tasks. After four successful sessions, you will be compensated with $20. Additional sessions beyond the first four will be voluntary, and you will be compensated with $5 per additional successful session.

If you are still interested in participating, please email us at dhou@clarkson.edu with the days and times you are available to participate in our research (8:00 to 4:30, Mondays to Fridays). Our scheduler will respond to you to set up an appointment. We are in CAMP111.
