Clarkson University has awarded longtime former member of its Board of Trustees, Charlie Craig, with the Honorary Alumnus award.
The Honorary Alumnus award recognizes and rewards non-alumni for outstanding service to Clarkson University or the Alumni Association.
Craig received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Geology from Dickinson College then pursued graduate study and conducted research at the University of Minnesota. He has served as Corning Incorporated’s representative on the Clarkson Board of Trustees for 20 years, from 2003 through 2023.
Since the mid-1950s, the Clarkson board has had representation by Corning corporate executives, including members of the Houghton family, who founded the enterprise in Boston in 1851. The last Houghton family CEO requested that Craig join the Clarkson University Board.
Craig served on multiple, technology-related board committees over his tenure, and in the last several years was a member of the board’s executive committee and chaired the newly formed people priorities committee.
With 49 years of service, Craig retired from Corning in November 2023 as senior vice president, science & technology.
Craig is a Loyal and Leadership donor in Clarkson’s Good Knights Guild.
He currently resides in Painted Post, NY with his wife Trudy Koenig.
