Future of the Common Experience Project

Short version: we’re looking for a few colleagues to help us prototype a data-gathering session for the Future of the Common Experience. Sign up, show up, bring your laptop. Tuesday Nov 12, 9 – 10 am, Student Center Multipurpose room A.

Long version: the subcommittee on the Future of the Clarkson Common Experience is proceeding through a process:

  1. Assess what our students aren’t getting from the current CCE and what we wish they would get.
  2. From that, build a set of values and outcomes that a new CCE should provide
  3. Vet the updated set of values and outcomes with a wide audience
  4. Build one or more prototypes of how to provide an educational experience that produces those outcomes
  5. Vet those prototypes with a wide audience
  6. Provide input to the Senate and the Dean’s Council for them to decide

We have a system for step 1, getting input on the gaps in the current system. We have prototyped that system within our committee. Now we’d like to do a test run on an outside audience, then take the show on the road to many more audiences.

We are looking for a small group, maybe 20 faculty, to spend 45 minutes to an hour to give input. If you are available Tuesday Nov 12 at 9 am, let us know; we’ll accept up to the first 20 volunteers. Bring your laptop! We will be using Google Sheets to collect your input. We’ll be in the Multipurpose rooms in the Student Center.

If you are interested in attending, email cthorpe@clarkson.edu so I know how much coffee to bring.
