NYSERDA has recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gauge market interest in activities to develop advanced nuclear energy technologies in New York State. Through this RFI, NYSERDA seeks to identify entities that are currently pursuing or interested in a potential role in advanced nuclear energy development. The initial RFI deadline is December 16 – if you are interested in submitting or extending this to another industry partner for a role with Clarkson, please reach out to VP Kelly Chezum to explore a combined response on behalf of the University.
The RFI solicits information from entities either already pursuing, or interested in pursuing, a potential role in advanced nuclear energy technology development in New York, and details on those roles. This information will help to support consideration of any next steps New York State may take in this regard. NYSERDA does not intend to publish responses to this RFI.
Entities encouraged to respond include:
- stakeholders who may be considering advanced nuclear solutions, such as users of large electric loads, industrial heat, and hydrogen – both those already active in New York and those considering establishing operations in New York;
- supply chain companies that could provide critical components for development of advanced nuclear energy projects in New York;
- potential host communities for nuclear reactors or supply chain projects;
- workforce development and training entities;
- nuclear generation project developers;
- financing/funding entities; and
- research and development entities including laboratories, universities and private entities.
Generation project consideration associated with this RFI is restricted to New York Independent System Operator (NYSISO) Control Area Load Zones A-F, which encompasses the area of New York State north and west of the lower Hudson Valley. See linked map. All other aspects of the request including energy consumers, supply chain, and workforce apply to all parts of New York State.
This RFI is not aimed at stakeholder input regarding nuclear power and its role in New York in general. NYSERDA has commenced a separate process to collect that feedback. While there is no current deadline for submission, responses are preferred by December 16, 2024 in order to support timely consideration and appropriate follow up.
Thanks for considering this opportunityt that will lead to further project funding on these topics. Kelly kchezum@clarkson.edu
