Join us as we celebrate Black History Month and bring awareness to the impacts of Sickle Cell Disease, a disease more common among African Americans than other ethnic groups. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), “In sickle cell disease, red blood cells are misshapen, typically crescent- or “sickle”-shaped due to a gene mutation that affects the hemoglobin molecule. When red blood cells sickle, they do not bend or move easily and can block blood flow to the rest of the body”. Donations for the blood drive are welcome from all donors.
