Dear Clarkson Faculty and Staff,
I hope this message finds you well! As we prepare to welcome our
incoming class of first-year students, we are excited to continue
building strong, supportive Living Learning Communities (LLCs) that
help our students thrive both academically and personally.
To make these communities a success, we are currently seeking faculty
and staff to serve as LLC Advisors/Liaisons for the upcoming academic
year. This is a unique opportunity to engage with students outside of
the classroom, foster a sense of belonging, and support their
transition to college life in a meaningful way.
Each LLC is centered around a specific theme, interest, or area of
study, and as a liaison, you would serve as a mentor and resource for
the students in your assigned community. Responsibilities are flexible
and collaborative, and support from our RA staff will be provided to
help you succeed in the role.
Academic Liaison Position Description:
The academic liaison serves as a resource or “expert” for the
residents and Residence life staff. Their area of “expertise” may be
related to their faculty or staff position on campus and or a personal
interest area. LLC Academic Liaisons are an integral part of the First
Year student experience as a mentor, guide, resource, and support to
the Residential Advisor and the floor residents. Positions will last
for one academic year, with the option of a position renewal. Academic
Liaisons will have the opportunity to complete end-of-semester program
evaluations based on their experience.
1. In addition, the academic liaison is someone whom the residence
life staff members will contact to obtain ideas and suggestions for
learning resources and activities for the living-learning theme
throughout the semester, related to community building between the
liaison, the floor, and the RA
2. The academic liaison serves as a mentor and role model for the RA
and residents of the theme community, who can be reached out to for
additional support, resources and information.
Time commitment – Although the time an academic liaison will spend
with the living-learning community depends on the degree of
involvement with the community, it is recommended that a faculty
member spend approximately 3 – 5 hours per semester as an academic
liaison.
Communication – The Office of Residence Life will connect you with the
Resident Advisor for the floor through email. This will take place
before the move-in/orientation week.
Serving as an LLC Liaison is a rewarding way to contribute to the
holistic development of our students and to be part of a community
that values learning, engagement, and connection.
If you’re interested or would like to learn more, please don’t
hesitate to reach out. I’ve given the full list of LLCs that need a
liaison.
