Facilities & Services will be conducting another “SAFETY DAYS” effort

Facilities & Services will be conducting another “SAFETY DAYS” effort on Tuesday, July 24th and Wednesday, July 25th (and possibly Thursday, July 26th, if needed).

Electric closets, utility rooms, mechanical rooms and data closets keep a building powered and connected.  Equipment in these spaces needs to be readily accessible so that workers can move around and service the equipment without tripping, falling, or coming into accidental contact with hazards such as electric current, hot surfaces, etc.  Fire safety is also a major consideration for not only the workers using the rooms, but ALL building occupants.  To prevent fire hazards and allow safe access for workers, these rooms need to be kept clean and clear of clutter.

This effort, we will be targeting mechanical spaces at the following locations:

  • Quad Center Core (Ross, Brooks, Cubley, and Reynolds)
  • Hamlin-Powers Basement and Center Core
  • Holcroft House Basement Mechanical Room
  • IRC/Alumni Gym Basement and Pool Areas
  • Adirondack Lodge Basement
  • Woodstock Buildings 5, 6, 7, 8
  • Service Building/Carpenter Shop
  • Walker Arena
  • Micro-Turbine Building
  • Old Main (if time allows)
  • Clarkson Hall (if time allows)
  • Peyton Hall (if time allows)

On those same days, the School of Engineering (SoE) will be collaborating on a similar clean-up in spaces in CAMP and Rowley.  Watch for more information from the Office of the Dean.  Please contact Eileen Winters,ewinters@clarkson.edu, or Bill Jemison, wjemison@clarkson.edu, for more information.

Erica Arnold, Environmental Health & Safety manager, can train and provide technical assistance with proper handling of items SoE is planning on moving or removing.  Contact Erica at earnold@clarkson.edu if you are interested in such help for your area on campus.

Please plan ahead:  Every Facilities & Services staff member will be contributing to this project.  We will be shutting down regular operations from 7:30 a.m. until Noon on those days so that all available resources can be focused on this effort.  The Student Mailroom and Shipping & Receiving likewise will be closed in the morning, and only afternoon delivery of mail will be provided on those days.  Please allow additional time for Duplicating requests.

Email facilities@clarkson.edu if you have any questions.
