Campus Strategic Planning Update

All,
The Strategic Planning Intranet site has been updated with all of the notes from the various strategic planning town halls over the past couple of months.  A revised overall narrative and draft strategy cascades has been drafted incorporating the various feedback the campus community has provided.  We have scheduled the following open sessions in an effort to continue to obtain input and feedback throughout the process.  You can find these on the Strategic Planning Intranet site of Calendar of Events that we have recently added.

Key Takeaways to Date:

  • The need to increase input across the campus community.  This will impact the timeline, we’ll make adjustments accordingly.
  • Adjust the language away from corporate-speak and refocus on education
  • Offer the opportunity for Task Force Team members to switch teams and new members to join in preparation for Phase II.
  • Strategic Pillar Refinements:
    • Accelerate academic offerings to provide students choices for an enriched student education and experience (e.g. what happens outside of the classroom).
    • Refine the growth strategic pillar, as it’s not for growth’s sake, but to capitalize on Clarkson’s strengths and educationally expand the undergraduate numbers to a sweet spot that is competitive with our peers.
    • Innovation should focus on educational experiences (e.g. innovation in pedagogy, innovative education) as well as the incubation of ideas.
    • Embed sustainability in everything Clarkson does.  Consider BlackRock’s standard of “We put an unwavering focus on long-term sustainability and ensure it’s embedded across our entire enterprise” and the United Nations systems thinking and integration of their 17 sustainable goals.

Next steps:

  • Address the key takeaways noted above.
  • Through mid-March, identify the top 3 most worrisome barriers for each strategic pillar; seek feedback.
  • Phase II Preparation:
    • Task Force Teams choose a Strategic Theme
    • Create a new 4th Task Force Team with Chair/Co-Chair for the 4th Strategic Theme and begin testing each barrier to refine the overall strategy
    • Provide the Clarkson campus communities the opportunity to switch/join the Task Force Teams
