Delta Upsilon’s Clarkson Chapter Named Fraternity Sweepstakes Trophy Finalist

Delta Upsilon International Fraternity is pleased to announce that its Clarkson Chapter at Clarkson University was named one of the seven finalists for its Sweepstakes Trophy, the highest honor bestowed upon a DU undergraduate chapter. The announcement was made at the Fraternity’s annual Leadership Institute, held July 26-29 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The chapter was also a recipient of the 2018 Campus and Community Impact Award.

The Delta Upsilon Sweepstakes Trophy has been awarded annually since 1953 to acknowledge chapters whose achievements surpass all expectations. Each year, seven finalists are selected. The 2018 trophy was awarded to the Kansas State Chapter. This is the first time the Clarkson Chapter has been named a Sweepstakes Finalist since 1969, a year in which it took home the Sweepstakes Trophy.

During the 2017-2018 academic year, the Clarkson Chapter initiated 100% of its associate members and maintained a membership size well above the campus IFC average. It ranks first among Clarkson fraternities in GPA, moving up from third place last year.

The chapter also excelled in service and philanthropy last year. Brothers of the Clarkson Chapter averaged 20 service hours each during the school year. Of note, the chapter worked diligently with Habitat for Humanity, as well as to build a local dog park. For these efforts, the chapter took home the Campus and Community Impact Award, which recognizes chapters that go above and beyond the expectation to be role models in their community. It specifically acknowledges those chapters that create and maintain strong relationships beyond Greek Life to benefit others.

“Three years ago, the Clarkson Chapter celebrated its reinstallation into Delta Upsilon, and today it is recognized as one of the top chapters in the Fraternity,” said Delta Upsilon Executive Director Justin Kirk. “The rise to such success in that short time is impressive. The men should be very proud of their achievements, and we look forward to the chapter’s continued success.”

Established in 1834, Delta Upsilon is an international men’s college fraternity with 74 chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada. The Fraternity, founded at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, is the oldest, non-secret, Greek-letter society and is committed to Building Better Men for a global society through its four founding principles: friendship, character, culture and justice. More than 133,000 men have joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity since its founding more than 183 years ago.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and the health professions, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
