Fall Semester Class Enrollment and Advising

Enrollment in Fall Semester courses will begin April 3; here’s a brief overview of the process:

– All semester-based students (both graduate and undergraduate) have an Advisor Hold on their account, and must meet with an Academic Advisor to have their hold released. Students may not enroll in classes until this is done. Some students may have other holds preventing enrollment, and should be directed to their SAS Rep for assistance in resolving them.

– Students may access their Academic Advising Report at any time through PeopleSoft. This, in conjunction with a discussion with their Advisor, should be used to aid in course selection.

– Each student is assigned an “enrollment appointment” – which is the day and time they may begin enrolling in PeopleSoft. Students can view their appointment in their PeopleSoft Student Center, and will not have access to enroll until their appointment begins.

Enrollment Shopping Cart

Students have access to save courses they plan to take in their enrollment shopping cart. While the shopping cart does not hold their seat in the class, it is a very helpful planning tool. Please encourage your advisees to plan their fall enrollment using the enrollment shopping cart.

·         Students can validate the courses in their shopping cart, to make sure they won’t run into unexpected problems during enrollment

·         Academic departments can view projected demand for a course based on shopping cart data on the Class Demand Report.

Resources

– The class schedule is available in PeopleSoft, and can be downloaded as a PDF from the SAS webpage, here.  You’ll also find other handy resources on that page, such as listings of all Knowledge Area and Communication Point courses, the Add/Drop form, and Cross-Registration information.

– Department Chairs may wish to monitor the Class Demand Report over the next several weeks, to assist decision making with regard to the spring class schedule. (The Class Demand Report includes information such as actual course enrollment, projected enrollment based on shopping cart data, and the number of students currently waitlisted).

– If you are an Academic Advisor, review the documentation available concerning the Advisor Center, or watch these short videos:
