The Cadets of the Clarkson Army ROTC Golden Knight Battalion will be sending a color guard to participate in Saranac Lake’s Anzac remembrance ceremony on April 25 at Hotel Saranac with a keynote address by Major General (Ret) Robert J. Kasulke.
Major General Kasulke, a medical doctor, was the Commander of the Army Reserve Medical Command and currently serves as Army Reserve Ambassador for the State of New York.
Anzac Day, celebrated on April 25th of each year, is a day of remembrance for soldiers and veterans in Australia and New Zealand, as on this date in 1915, thousands of soldiers in the “Australian New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC)” suffered tremendous casualties in a large military operation in what is now Turkey.
Saranac Lake began its commemoration of Anzac Day and the sacrifices of both American and Australian veterans along with the recognition of PTS – which affects many of these men and women – following the death atop nearby Scarface Mountain in early 2014 of 31-year-old Australian Army Captain Paul McKay, diagnosed with PTS.
“Participating in this event gives our Cadets the opportunity to demonstrate Honor, Respect, and Selfless Service, which are some of the values we strive to instill in our future Army leaders,” said Professor and Army ROTC Department Chair Bill Nguyen. “We always welcome the opportunity to support our community partners, recognize the sacrifice of our allies, and showcase the quality student leaders in our program.”
The luncheon will be in the Hotel Saranac Ballroom from noon to 1:30 p.m. All net proceeds will be donated to St. Joe’s and Homeward Bound, both not-for-profit 501(C)3 organizations.
