Clarkson President Collins Named One of the Most Powerful People in New York State Working In Education

Clarkson President Anthony G. Collins has been honored by City & State New York, a media organization that is dedicated to covering New York’s local and state politics and public policy. The organization recently released its inaugural Higher Education Power 50 list, naming Collins to that elite group.

The list honors the 50 most powerful New Yorkers working in higher education.   It focuses on the achievements of the leader of the school, their influence in policymaking, and connections to key city and state government officials.

Named Clarkson’s 16th president in 2003, Collins is a well-known regional and national advocate for higher education – industrial partnerships that couple research discovery and engineering innovation with enterprises for commercialization and economic development.  He just concluded an eight-year term as Co-Chair of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council, the longest serving university representative to the network of REDCs.  He is the only educator named in this cohort from an institution with its main campus north of the New York State Thruway.

City & State NY says that President Collins is, “not your standard college Administrator. The Australia native is an accomplished civil engineer with more than 90 professional publications to his name. He was nominated to serve on the Advisory Board of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation by President Barack Obama and is a member of the panel tasked with advising Gov. Andrew Cuomo on redesigning the state’s airports.”

“Clarkson is a national research university and proven leader in technological education and sustainable economic development through teaching, scholarship, research and innovation. On behalf of the faculty, students and staff who drive that mission, I am honored to be named to this list and represent their commitment to New York and our global world. Thank you again to those who made this recognition possible,” President Collins said.
