Policy Updates – Background Check and NYS Paid Family Leave

Dear Clarkson Community,

As a continued effort to update current policies and clarify practices of the University see the new policies below. 

 The policies are outlined as follows:

Background Check –The purpose of this policy is to:

1.        Promote consistency in safe hiring practices through more thorough screening of job applicants.

        2.    Increase legal compliance and reduce risk of liability especially in employment positions that require interactions with minors.

New York State Paid Family Leave – The purpose of this policy in accordance with the New York State Paid Family Leave Law, will:

     1.      Provide eligible employees with protected time off from work to care for a family member, bond with a child (birth or adoption) and to assist when a family member is called to active military duty. 

    2.      Employees on paid family leave (PFL) will receive partial pay through an insurance policy funded by a small weekly post-tax payroll deduction (set in accordance with state law).

    3.      Participation in the PFL program is mandatory for all employees covered by the law, except for those eligible for a waiver.
