Clarkson Start-Up Moving Locations in Potsdam

A not-for-profit corporation that emerged from the research work of a late Clarkson professor is moving to a bigger location.

RATES, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation that was formed through the work of Clarkson Professor James Bonner that offers advanced information technology facilities and related services to participating organizations in order to address environmental and public safety issues and ensure regulatory compliance. RATES seeks to improve water quality and water resource management through community engagement and emerging sensor technology.

The corporation is moving from the Clarkson incubation space in Old Main and will now be occupying a facility in downtown Potsdam to continue their work. The corporation also has another location in Texas.

“RATES’ primary goal is to make knowledge-based policy and decision making possible with regards to water resource management. In part, we do that by developing community partnerships and working to bring resources to bear to assist smaller communities to ensure they have the same opportunities afforded to larger urban areas. This move, in conjunction with our ongoing activities with Clarkson University positions us ideally to fulfill this mission,” Patrick O’Brien the Chief Operating Officer of RATES said.
