Former Clarkson Army ROTC Professor’s Battalion Wins Three National Awards

Former Clarkson University Army ROTC Professor of Military Science LTC. Michael Athanasakis’s battalion was selected as the Army Aviation Unit of the Year by the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA). They were chosen for the award out of more than 75 other Battalions.

The 2nd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) was responsible for “exceptional achievement in support of overseas contingency operations, sustaining aviation readiness, and producing combat power.” The battalion remained continuously deployed in support of Resolute Support, and Operations Inherent Resolve, Juniper Nimbus, and Yukon Journey.

Members of Athanasakis’s team also won the Soldier of the Year and Aviation Department of the Army Civilian of the Year in the individual categories.
