Clarkson University Air Force ROTC Cadets and Cadre Participate in the US Air Force Marathon

The Clarkson University Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Marathon team traveled to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio on Sept 21st, 2019 to compete in the annual Air Force Marathon. 

Eight cadets from Clarkson and two cadets from Saint Lawrence University participated in the full marathon, half marathon, or 10k events.  In the half marathon event, Cadet Wing Commander, AF Marathon Team Leader and Biology student Michael Gagnon, ’20, placed 5th in the Men’s 20-24 division and 15th overall with a time of 1 hour 23 minutes and 9 seconds.  

This year marked the 23nd Air Force Marathon and participants came from all fifty states and several foreign countries.  Additionally, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General David Goldfein ran the half-marathon and provided remarks at the start of the races.   

The Clarkson representatives who completed the full marathon were computer science student James Meeker ’20 and aeronautical engineering student Nicholas Fallo ’21.  The Clarkson participants who completed the half marathon in addition to Cadet Gagnon were mechanical engineering student Alissa Satterfield ’20, chemical engineering student William Bruce, ’20, and aeronautical engineering student Stefan Baumgarten, ’22.  The Clarkson students who completed the 10K were data science student Javien Spence, ’22 and software engineering student Michael Anderson. ’22.  

The team also included Saint Lawrence University math student Abigail Eberle ’22 and chemistry student Nicholas Dintino ’22.

Captain Jonathan Crocker, the Assistant Professor of Air, Space, and Cyberspace Studies completed the full marathon and Lt Col Wes Nims, the Professor or Air, Space, and Cyberspace Studies completed the half marathon.
