Associated Colleges – SUNY Canton Alumnus Giving Talk via Zoom on “Talented Tenth”

Faculty, students, and staff of the Associated Colleges of the St Lawrence Valley are invited to attend a keynote presentation by Dr. LaVon Williams ’99, a SUNY Canton alumnus and the founder of the Men of the Tenth, a not-for-profit organization in the Bronx, New York.

Inspired by W.E.B. Dubois’ “Talented Tenth” referring to the one in ten Black men becoming leaders in the world, Dr. Williams’ created The Men of the Tenth Inc. to “teach the truth to the youth” by using history and hip-hop to educate students on how to achieve their dreams. Dr. Williams’s presentation keynotes SUNY Canton’s annual Scholarly Activities Celebration, to support and recognize student scholarship in all forms.

The presentation is scheduled as follows:

Zoom virtual reception: Monday, April 13 from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Zoom Virtual Presentation:  Monday, April 13 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

First, SUNY Canton will be welcoming Dr. Williams at an informal virtual chat (“reception”) from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13.  Following a brief break, he will present from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with questions and answers to follow.
