TerrApparel starts Project Help For Heroes to support SLHS
Starting April 26th, local community members can join TerrApparel in supporting healthcare heroes at the Saint Lawrence Health System (SLHS) by donating wicking long sleeve shirts to be worn by medical professionals under full personal protective equipment. For every $15 donated on the Hope for Heroes page, TerrApparel will provide one long-sleeve shirt, a $35 value, to healthcare workers at SLHS. TerrApparel is committed to this effort until supplies are gone. Commercial Press, of Canton, NY, has also joined the effort and volunteered to help screen print the donated shirts with the SLHS logo.
All donations will be provided directly to SLHS. In addition to the donation packages, healthcare workers anywhere and anyone who wishes to buy a shirt for a healthcare worker in their life can use the discount code YOURHERO to buy a long sleeve shirt at cost. TerrApparel is looking for community support to give our healthcare heroes the items they need to feel safe and comfortable during today’s crisis. TerrApparel is a Clarkson University-based start-up run by two current students, Matt Hawthorne ‘19, M.S. ‘21 and Maura Maguire ‘20, with a focus on sustainability. Project Help For Heroes is designed to bring our community together and help provide some comfort to doctors and nurses on the front lines of the current crisis.
This initiative started when a customer of TerrApparel reached out to share her story as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) wearing the wicking shirt under full personal protective equipment (PPE):
“I’ve been wearing my TerrApparel long sleeves under my scrub tops for a while now, but I didn’t realize how great they are until a recent shift where I had to be in full PPE for 8 hours. Other nurses had warned me that I was going to be sweaty and uncomfortable in full PPE but I found that having this long sleeve on helped to wick sweat away and made my shift a little better!”

TerrApparel took this feedback and wanted to understand how we could do more. “The North Country Community has supported us from the beginning, so when Annaliese told us about her experience, we didn’t hesitate to turn this into an opportunity to give back,” said Maura Maguire, co-founder of TerrApparel.
