Accepting Donations During Student Move Out

Due to the coronavirus we are not setting up our usual Take it or Leave it tents this year. Donations will only be accepted from students cleaning out dorms and on-campus apartments. There will be no “take it” location until later in the summer. The program will work as follows:

  • As students return to Potsdam and check in to campus to pack up their rooms they will be given a “Move out donation” flyer.
  • Students can leave a clearly marked pile of donations in their rooms as they leave. Place the “Move out donations” flyer securely on the pile.
  • Make sure custodians will not confuse your donation pile with anything you plan to have the university store for you over the summer. Mark both piles clearly.
  • Custodians will transfer donation piles to a common location on campus.
  • Later in the summer materials will be distributed to nonprofits and the wider community.
  • The move out donation program is not available to students who live off campus, faculty, or staff this year.

The Potsdam community really appreciates the donations that students make each year. St. Lawrence County is one of the more impoverished in New York State. The valuable items that students donate go to good use. The Institute for a Sustainable Environment has already been contacted this year by nonprofits such as the Humane Society asking if there will be donations available.
